We built Maverick Cycles in Whittier for a reason. The riding here is as good as anywhere in Southern California — and most people don't even know it.
Turnbull Canyon
The classic. A steady 3-mile climb through the hills above Whittier with views that stretch from downtown LA to the San Gabriel Mountains. The descent is fast and technical — the kind that rewards your attention. Start early and you'll have the road to yourself.
Distance: 12 miles round trip from the shop | Elevation: ~1,200 ft | Surface: Paved
San Gabriel River Trail
Flat, long, and perfect for the days when you want miles without thinking about traffic. The path runs from the mountains to the coast — pick your distance and turn around. Bring a friend, bring headphones, bring nothing. The river trail doesn't ask much of you.
Distance: Up to 38 miles one way | Elevation: Minimal | Surface: Paved bike path
Hacienda Hills / Skyline Trail
For the gravel riders. Dirt fire roads, single track options, and enough climbing to earn your post-ride coffee. The views from the ridge look back over the entire San Gabriel Valley. It's raw, it's quiet, and it's fifteen minutes from the shop.
Distance: 8–15 miles depending on route | Elevation: ~900 ft | Surface: Gravel / dirt
The Saturday Group Ride
Every Saturday morning, we roll out from the shop at 7:30 AM. No-drop, mixed pace, usually 30–40 miles with a coffee stop. It's the best way to learn these roads — and meet the people who ride them. Just show up.
