We had an absolute blast at our latest event this past Saturday! The excitement kicked off when Zach, an avid participant from Gravel Bike California, not only thoroughly enjoyed our previous gravel event but was inspired to organize a thrilling gravel ride himself. Designing a unique route around the scenic Turnbull Canyon area, Zach's initiative drew in nearly 60 riders from various cities across California. It marked the most significant turnout of gravel enthusiasts we've seen since the inception of our events.
Covering an impressive 40 miles with a challenging 5000ft elevation gain, the route promised both adventure and scenic beauty. What made this event even more remarkable was the seamless execution, as everyone diligently followed the rules, resulting in a smoothly orchestrated ride. Despite the substantial number of participants, the group started and finished the journey together, fostering a sense of camaraderie among the riders.
Post-ride celebrations included indulging in the finest smash burgers in town, courtesy of Riverbed Bums. Following the swift sellout at our previous gravel & burger gathering, we urged them to bring more this time. To our delight, they committed to a double portion. However, much to everyone's surprise, the burgers flew off the grill once again, selling out within a mere two hours!
The event served as a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together, sharing the joy of gravel riding and delicious food. Encouraged by its success, we've decided to elevate the frequency, making this a monthly affair.
